North West Property Awards 2010
TechPro Events, working for Stray Cat Communications, were commissioned to provide Audio Visual and technical production support for the North West Property Awards 2010, held at the Manchester Central Convention Centre.
Working to the client’s brief, TechPro produced and supplied a magnificent High Definition 3-screen, part cube structure, which provided the main focus for the show. TechPro supplied all of the video, sound and lighting systems as well as the stage, set and technical crew.
“This installation was very busy, there were a host of technical challenges and deadlines to meet, in all 28 crew (and myself!) were used to bring it all together successfully. As well as building the main show over night, we had to rig a separate conference room as well as bespoke exhibition and foyer areas!”
(Mark Stokes, TechPro)
“I just wanted to thank you and the crew very, very, very much for your help and support in pulling together the NW awards. On the day, I feel the build and execution was seamless and the set looked fantastic! All the crew deserve a huge pat on the back for a fantastic event and need to know their long hours and graft was valued. I can’t think of a crew that worked harder to ensure we were ready early and good to go hours before!”
(Cayetana Brown, Stray Cat)
TECHNICAL ASPECT
The main visual focus for the event was the large 3 screen projection cube feature, each screen measuring 8m x 6m. To achieve the stunning images, Panasonic 12k Lumens HD projectors were used to display the main show graphics, VT playback and live Sony cameras. A Barco DCS200 switcher was used for switching of the video sources to the main screen. In addition Sanyo XP200 LCD projectors, fed independently from the main screen, provided the images relaying rolling graphics for the shows sponsors.
The backdrop to the stage projection cube was a 20m x 6m Cyclorama, which using Thomas LED lighting and Martin MAC250 moving lights, provided the variety for colour changes and moving imagery during the awards, show logo and strap lines were also displayed. ETC Generic lighting was used for the general stage wash.
A Nexo PA rig was installed, contributing to providing clear, quality sound to the audience’s ears. A fully designed Nexo Geo S12 line array system (4 cabinets per side, with 2 wide dispersion down-fills) provided the main audio output, covering the majority of the audience area, this flown array being supplemented by 4 ground stacked subs to add punch to the live music program. Nexo PS15 speakers were used as side fills for the hard to reach seating areas. All speaker cabinets were driven using the latest Nexo/Yamaha NXAmp digital amplification.

Farmers Weekly Awards – Grosvenor House Hotel, London
TechPro Events, working for the production company WARL-ic, were commissioned to provide full audio visual and technical production support for the Farmers Weekly Magazine Awards 2009, being held at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.
Working to the client’s brief and visual, TechPro produced a superb High Definition wide screen image which provided the main focus for the show and an impressive backdrop to the stage area. Additionally, TechPro supplied all of the video, sound, lighting equipment, plus the stage set and technical crew.
The rig for the event started at 07:00 to be ready for technical and client rehearsals for 14:00. This provided a tough challenge, given that the video content alone consisted of a three projector wide screen blend and additional side screens for live camera relay, not to mention the sound and lighting rig!
“It was a tough task, we have worked at the Grosvenor many times in the past and to similar schedules, but this rig had a little extra pressure, given the fact that the video team had to rig a seamless, 3-projector High Def blend in a relatively short space of time. We had an excellent crew as always and everything went to schedule, the video image really blew people away” – Mark Stokes (Managing Director, TechPro Events)
Technical Aspect
The main focus for the event centred on the impressive stage backdrop, 3 x suspended Panasonic HD projectors were blended together to produce the stunning 21m x 6m video image. A Barco Encore widescreen system using 3 x VP processors produced the effect of an un-scaled background at triple high definition, a centre PIP was masked to create the half circle image for all of the HD (and some SD) VT playback. A fourth Encore VP processor provided relay images for the presenters comfort monitors.
The video source equipment consisted of a custom designed and built PC with a Matrox quad HD video card installed; this allowed us up to four individual HD outputs (1920 x 1080). A Grass Valley IDDR Turbo hard drive player was used for the VT playback and two live cameras provided the live material, which was relayed onto the side screens.
